apachemodulerewrite.dll - What is apachemodulerewrite.dll?
apachemodulerewrite.dll File Description:
The Apache HTTP Server Project is an effort to develop and maintain an open-source HTTP server for modern operating systems including UNIX and Windows NT. The goal of this project is to provide a secure, efficient and extensible server that provides HTTP services in sync with the current HTTP standards. This project is part of the Apache Software Foundation.
The apachemodulerewrite.dll module uses a rule-based re-writing engine that is based on a regular-expression parser to re-write the requested URL at once. The apachemodulerewrite.dll module supports an unlimited number of rules and an unlimited number of attached rule conditions for each to provide a really flexible and effective URL manipulation mechanism. The URL manipulations are dependent on the results of various tests that check for server variables, HTTP headers, time stamps, environment variables, and even external database lookups in different formats.
The apachemodulerewrite.dll module operates on the full Uniform Resource Locator including the path-info part, both in the server context (httpd.conf) and the directory context (.htaccess). It can even create query-string parts on results. The rewritten result can lead to internal external request redirection, sub-processing, or even to an internal proxy throughput.
Following a request, the Apache Web Server determines the corresponding server or virtual server, and the re-writing engine starts processing of all the apachemodulerewrite.dll module directives from the server configuration in the URL to filename phase. Later when the final data directories are found, the directory configuration directives of the apachemodulerewrite.dll module are triggered in another phase. In both situations, the apachemodulerewrite.dll module re-writes URLs to either new URLs or to filenames although there is no obvious distinction between them. This is a usage of the Applications Programming Interface, which was not intended when the API was designed, but as of Apache 1.x this is the only way the apachemodulerewrite.dll module can operate.Author: Apache Software Foundation
