pagecnt.dll - What is pagecnt.dll?
pagecnt.dll File Description:
The IIS is a variant of the Personal Web Server after it replaced the latter. The program is a set of Internet-based services for servers using Microsoft Windows.
Being a component of the Internet Information Services program, the module pagecnt.dll creates a PageCounter object that counts and displays the number of times a Web page has been opened. During regular intervals, the object writes the number of hits to a text file so that in the event of a server shutdown, the data is not lost. An internal Central Management object is being used by the module pagecnt.dll to record how many times each page in the application has been opened.
During the time the module pagecnt.dll creates a PageCounter object on a page by using the Server.CreateObject method, the object reclaims the current hit count for the specified Web page from the Central Management object. The PageCount object can then be manipulated with some methods it exposes.
The module pagecnt.dll saves the current hit count in a text file. The text file is called Hit Count Data file, which is a text file on the server to which the Central Management object saves the hit count data. Any modifications or editing in the Hit Count Data file will prevent the PageCounter object and the module pagecnt.dll from properly loading the hit count information.
There are three ways in which a user can manipulate the PageCounter object created by the module pagecnt.dll. These methods include:
•Hits, which displays the number of times that a specified URL has been opened; •PageHit, which increments the Hit Count;
•and Reset, which sets the hit count for a specified page to 0.Author: Microsoft
