php_mcrypt.dll - What is php_mcrypt.dll?
php_mcrypt.dll File Description:
The MCrypt Encryption functions is an interface to the MCrypt library supporting a wide variety of block algorithms such as Blowfish (default), DES, TripleDES, 3WAY, SAFER-SK64, SAFER-SK128, TWOFISH, TEA, RC2 and GOST in CBC, OFB, CFB and ECB cipher modes. It also supports RC6 and IDEA, which are considered as "non-free" algorithms.
The MCrypt Encryption functions work by using MCrypt, a replacement for the old crypt() package and crypt(1) command with extensions. It allows developers to use a wide range of encryption functions without having to make radical changes to their code. On the other hand, it allows users to encrypt files or data streams without having to be cryptographers.
Compiling PHP with the parameter can enable the php_mcrypt.dll extension: -with-mcrypt[=DIR] where the DIR is the mcrypt install directory. You also need to compile the libmcrypt.dll file with the option -disable-posic-threads.
The php_mcrypt.dll module defines a number of constants, which will only be available when it has been compiled into PHP or has been dynamically loaded at runtime. The php_mcrypt.dll file defines the following constants together with the supported encryption modes:
* MCRYPT_MODE_ECB (electronic codebook) - suitable for random data, such as encrypting other keys.
* MCRYPT_MODE_CBC (cipher block chaining) - particularly suitable for encrypting files where the security is increased over ECB significantly.
* MCRYPT_MODE_CFB (cipher feedback) - the best mode for encrypting byte streams where single bytes must be encrypted.
* MCRYPT_MODE_OFB (output feedback, in 8bit) - comparable to CFB, but can be used in applications where error propagation cannot be tolerated.
* MCRYPT_MODE_NOFB (output feedback, in nbit) - comparable to OFB, but more secure because it operates on the block size of the algorithm.
* MCRYPT_MODE_STREAM - an extra mode to include some stream algorithms like WAKE or RC4.Author: The PHP Group
