What is the .CBZ File Extension?
.CBZ File Extension Description:
Files with the .cbz file extension are archived files for sequential viewing of Comic Book images. The CDisplay image viewing program popularized this idea, thus considered very useful to CBZ file extension as well as to other Comic Book Archive file extensions such as CBR, CBT, and CBA because it can easily display the comic book images contained in these file extensions. The standard icon for CBZ file extension is a comic balloon.
Normally, computer files are compressed into archives to save space and better organize the information they contain. Common archive file formats are ZIP, RAR, and TAR. Before Comic Book Archive files can be designated as "comics", they are compressed with a special set of file extensions such as .cbz as .zip, .cbr as .rar, and .cbt as .tar. These designations allow computers to associate comic reading applications with these file extensions allowing other non-comic software to use the standard file extensions.
In the case of the CBZ file extension, the ZIP format takes one or more files with the .cbz file extension and compresses them as one file with the .zip file extension. The RAR and TAR file formats does the same to the files with the .cbr and .cbt file extensions respectively.
Files with the .cbz file extension usually contain PNG and JPEG files, but GIF, BMP, and TIFF files can also be found sometimes. Using the CBZ file extension provides simplified file viewing characteristics and easy maintenance attributes.
You can make your own comic files with the .cbz file extension by placing all comic scans into a folder and rename them in page order. Archive the files using the Zip compression engine.
The most widely-used viewer for files with the .cbz file extension is the CDisplay. It can read and open the CBZ file extension, which is the de facto standard, as well as all the other file extension formats. If you rename a file with the .cbz file extension to the CBR file extension format, CDisplay will still be able to view it. However, if you will distribute files with the .cbz file extension via DC++ or Bit Torrent, stick to its original file with the .cbz file extension format.
