What is the .CHN File Extension?
.CHN File Extension Description:
The data analysis software, Ethnograph uses the file extension CHN in saving data files. Ethnograph is an application that supports data analysis taken from qualitative research. With the use of this tool, data analysis is easier, and results are efficiently and effectively utilized for analysis.
The Etnograph application, which uses the CHN file extension, is a pioneer in its field of computer aided qualitative analysis. Social scientists, literary critics, historians, businesses, health researchers, market analysts and legal researchers have since used it. Ethnograph handles qualitative information including data from interview transcripts, survey responses, field notes, and other forms of text based documents.
The features of the Etnograph application, which uses the CHN file extension, can fit into the three major functions Ethnograph exhibits. First function is its ability to create a project and read various data files. Before analysis can be done to any type of data, the first task is always to prepare the data files collected. This application is compatible with word processors commonly used today.
In Etnograph, It is required that the format of the data follow the prescribed format of the application, which is having 40 character lines, having hanging paragraph indents, saved in ASCII format, and then finally saved with the CHN file extension. After the preparation of data, creating a project would be needed where importing of data files are performed.
The second main function of Ethnograph is to code data files with the CHN file extension. This is the part where the program would put markings using a code word on specific occurrences or instances, where a data is different or similar. Code a Data File procedure is used to assign these code words. Coded segments can be as short as 40 characters or as long as 9,999 lines. These coded segments can have up to 12 coded words, which can be nested and/or overlapped up to 7 levels down.
The last function that this application performs is the searching for data files saved in the CHN file extension. The application Etnograph is able to search through the coded data, retrieve the information, and display the information in different ways.Author: John Seidel
