What is the .CLD File Extension?

.CLD File Extension Description:

The file extension CLD is the Canon CD Label Template file designed for the purpose of providing a template for printing CL labels and covers using the Canon printer. The content of files with the .cld file extension can be preset printing areas that will serve as the starting point for creating CD artwork. The CD-LabelPrint program that is shipped with Canon Pixma printers uses the file extension CLD.

Aside from being a template file, the CLD file extension is also categorized as a Page Layout file. This means that the CLD file can provide the basic point for the new document. When a user opens a file with the .cld file format, the content becomes pre-formatted. An example would be the possible use of files with the .cld extension in Microsoft Word if the content were formatted to be a business letter. This kind of file with the file format .cld can create a space for the user to input his or her name and address in upper left corner, a space for the recipient's address below on the left side, an area for the full message body, and a spot where the user can sign his or her signature.

Saving a created template in the Canon CD-LabelPrint would automatically generate a file with the .cld file extension. However, the user can also be prompted to save a copy of such file, in case he or she did not save over the template category. Saved files with the .cld file extension are ready for printing and can only be recognized by Canon printers. The user can open his or her created file with the .cld file extension using the Canon CD-LabelPrint program in either the Mac OS or Windows operating system.
