What is the .CNF File Extension?
.CNF File Extension Description:
The files with the .cnf file extension are configuration files that have the capability to store certain information necessary to establish a Telnet connection. Generally, the Telnet will reference the file extension CNF, in order to connect to the Internet or a Local Area Network. The Telnet or Telecommunication Network is a network protocol that is available on most Unix systems. Through the use of Telnet, the user can access certain resources on the system, including the user's home directory, FTP file, e-mail account, and more.
As a configuration file, the CNF file extension is utilized to configure and store the initial settings for some machine programs. When used with the Telnet network protocol, the files with the .cnf file extension have the function of storing the server name, password, and username information. In addition, the CNF file extension will serve the purpose of being a shortcut for most of the Telnet sessions of the user.
There are several commands that are used to create a Telnet configuration file, or a file with the .cnf file extension. These commands are used to configure Telnet support on the user's communication server. Such commands will include the "ip alias", which is used to assign an IP address to the service provided on the TCP port. Other Telnet configuration commands include: ip tcp chunk-size, telnet break-on-ip, telnet refuse-negotiations, telnet-speed, telnet sync-on-break, and the telnet transparent.
Other files with the .cnf file extension are used for the computer's operating system and application settings. Usually, the files with the .cnf file extension are written in ASCII. There are some programs that only reference the CNF file extension during startup though there are still others that periodically check files with the .cnf file extension for changes. Additionally, there are other machine applications that provide the user with tools that can enable them to modify, create and verify the syntax of files with the .cnf file extension.Author: N/A
