What is the .DNT File Extension?
.DNT File Extension Description:
There are several kinds of networks used to connect devices in the automation industry. Networks are used so a series of devices and hardware will be connected to share information and data. Most recent programs and technology used to do this are based on the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP). CIP uses a set of messages and services that are used to collect developed automation applications. The applications are used to do several things such as control, synchronize, configure, share information, process motion tasks and check safety of connected devices.
One type of network protocol based on this protocol is Ethernet/IP (Ethernet Industrial Protocol). This program uses Ethernet hardware and programs to set a protocol of application layers. This protocol is used to configure, control and access industrial automation devices. Another protocol based on CIP is ControlNet, which uses a physical layer using RG-6 Coaxial cables and BNC connectors. This program is classified as a fieldbus, meaning it is used to distribute control in real-time. DeviceNet is another communication protocol based on CIP; it is used to share data between control devices. These network protocols can be managed and supported by the RSNetWorx program.
RSNetWorx allows users to configure and manage devices connected by any of the above mentioned network protocols. The program saves its configuration projects with the DNT file extension. Files with the file extension .dnt store the settings and tasks scheduled for the devices connected. These files contain data, which are then sent to the network to start changes or jobs. Files with the DNT file extension contain settings, which can be applied to some, or all of the devices connected in the network. Projects with the .dnt file extension can be created even when the program is not connected to an active network. The file extension DNT can also be attached to projects that are created by using the RSLinx feature of RSNetWorx to access the networks.Author: Rockwell Software
