What is the .DXF File Extension?
.DXF File Extension Description:
The DXF file extension is commonly known in identifying 2D and 3D graphic drawing files. These files are both graphic files, but they still have certain differences. The 2D or two-dimensional files, looks like a flat image and were usually found in the older versions of games. Meanwhile, the 3D or three-dimensional graphic files are richer in content, and looks like more of a real picture than the 2D. 3D is now used with some movie animations and modern games. These two images both use the DXF file extension, but aside from these two, this file extension also identifies other applications.
One of these is the AutoCAD DIF or drawing interchange format. The other term for the AutoCAD DIF spells out the DXF in the DXF file extension, which is the drawing exchange format. Files with the DXF file extension are highly capable to be used between the AutoCAD and other compatible programs. The AutoCAD has long used this file extension since it was introduced in 1982, as part of the first AutoCAD version. The creation of this file format was intended to give users the exact representation of data made in the AutoCAD environment.
However, the use of the DXF file extension for AutoCAD declined, when the program introduced graphic file formats that are capable of more diverse compatibility. But, nevertheless, some users still work with the DXF file extensions, and some just convert the file into a more flexible image file format.
Meanwhile, the DXF file extension is not only associated with graphic files. Some can also find this file extension with the Micrografx Picture Publisher, providing all the special effects of the program. This application is similar to Adobe Photoshop, which edits, enhances, and creates image files. It also offers many special effects that can provide art to a certain image. All these effects are identified with the DXF file extension.
More than all the mentioned applications, the DXF file extension can also be found with the Image PSP and XMap application, as the exported image file of the program.Author: Autodesk, Inc., Corel Corporation
