What is the .EXP File Extension?
.EXP File Extension Description:
The EXP file extension has different versions, depending on the application that uses it; but, mostly, for programs running under Microsoft Windows operating systems. To begin with, the .exp extension is described as an Export File that contains different data, depending on the program that creates it.
For example, Microsoft Visual C++ exports source codes, project information, references, and forms, which can be opened by other programming languages, like Borland C++, Visual Studio, and so on. This is very useful for sharing data with different users. Intuit QuickBooks is a financial application that uses the same file extension in transferring and sharing data to other systems.
To save data into a file with an .exp extension, the user needs to access the "export" function under "File" found on the menu bar. The data can be transferred over to your project using the "import" command under the same location.
Another version of the EXP extension is described as "Aurora Expert Trace File," created by the application Trend Communication Aurora Expert. The file with an EXP format will contain trace info for data communication. This includes the recording of the various paths used to transfer data across different devices, such as PPP, IP, V5, ISDN, and Frame Relay Systems.
The .exp file extension is also being used by the SonicWALL SonicOS system, which holds data for the configuration settings of its firewall application (also being used for Microsoft Windows operating systems). By default, the firewall configuration settings are stored under the filename "sonicwall.exp," but can be renamed, if necessary.
For this application, the file with the EXP file format is used to store backup information on the firewall settings of the application, which can later be used through the SonicWALL management interface.Author: Microsoft Corporation
