What is the .FIN File Extension?
.FIN File Extension Description:
ATI Radeon uses the file extension FIN for its video driver files. ATI Technologies is a developer and manufacturer of computer processing units like graphics processing units, motherboards chips, and different video cards. Its major released product is the Radeon series graphics card. This is part of their graphics processing units line or GPU. Different released series of the Radeon graphics processing units also has different characteristics. These distinctive characteristics include different number of pixel pipelines, memory speeds, processor clock speeds and the file extensions they use for their driver files such as the FIN file extension.
The FIN file extension when used as the video driver file for ATI Radeon contains different updates for the video card, for different platforms. Currently, ATI video supports the 32 bit version of Windows XP. Its driver for the 64 bit Windows XP has yet to be released. The focus on the 32 bit Windows XP is because of its popularity to the public, as well as compatibility issues to other drivers.
For Macintosh users, the files with the FIN file extension have updates not only for retailed Macintosh video cards, but also for other ATI Macintosh products. Apple Inc. specifically, includes driver updates for ATI, every time a new operating system is released. Files with the FIN file extension installs the ATI Display, which is a preference panel that allows users access to the advanced features of the graphics card.
For Linux users, the release of the Linux ATI video driver showed that the video card is leaning towards intense graphics users, and not for gamers. Updates for Linux users are provided every month, where an ATI binary driver was eventually released on April of 2006. This driver was specially created for ATI R5x0 chips (x1300/x1600/x1800 cards). This was almost a period of six months, after these cards where made commercially available. It should be noted that the R100 and R200 series cards were created using the different specifications by ATI. The R300 and R40 series on the other hand was created using a reverse process.Author: AMD
