What is the .FIX File Extension?

.FIX File Extension Description:

The FIX file extension is commonly associated with the HotFix applications developed by Microsoft Corporation to add functionalities and support for Windows operating systems.

The advent of the FIX extension file was during the beta phase of Microsoft Windows XP, which repairs certain errors and abnormalities known to occur within the system during its testing phase.

In order to do this, Microsoft created files with .fix extensions to serve as generic patch files that will incorporate updates and corrective changes into the system itself.

Also, files with .fix extension are now being used extensively with other Windows operating systems, like XP Professional and Home Edition, Service Pack 1 and Service Pack 2; and the newly released Windows Vista, to embed additional support to improve its functionality.

Despite the various definitions and data found in assorted files with .fix extensions, they will still function as patch files when executed in the system. After you download the file from the Microsoft Web site, you can easily run it by double clicking the left button on the mouse (you can also select it using the mouse and pressing Enter on the keyboard). Once the .fix file is activated, it requires no input or any intervention from the user.

Those files with the FIX file extension downloaded using Window's Automatic Update will be initialized and executed when the operating system is turned off, or restarted, by the user (Start Menu - Turn off Computer).

When the FIX file is initialized in the system, it will first correct other files stated in its directive; then, will it correct or embed information into the registry to incorporate these changes into the Windows operating system.
