What is the .FLI File Extension?
.FLI File Extension Description:
The FLI file extension is mostly known in storing animation files called the FLIC animation. Sometimes, the file extension FLC is used instead of the FLI file extension. Autodesk originally developed this file as an old format for the products of its Autodesk Animator and Autodesk Animator Pro, but the FLI file extension is distinctly used for the Autodesk Animator.
The Autodesk Animator is one of the earliest 2D animation software and painting programs that was created in 1989. At first, this software can only run on a personal computer under the Microsoft disk operating system. The FLI file extension was one of the earliest file formats of the Autodesk Animator, making it usable for animation. The Autodesk animator also gained a ground breaking success in the field of computer animation. The FLI file extension in that time was very popular in its initial release and its early years.
Making a file with the FLI file format provides the user with the enjoyment of creating cel animation, or animation that is created through each frame just likes the earlier Disney animations. The AutoDesk Animator was also capable of tweening or transforming a single shape into another, through automatically adjusting the computer and letting it draw each shape into a separate frame.
However, the use of the FLI file extension declined due to the lesser development done with the Autodesk Animator. More and more users also shifted their platforms from the MS-DOS to other user-friendlier operating systems such Windows. AutoDesk Animator and the FLI file extension became behind its time. And so, the AutoDesk decided to stop developing the AutoDesk Animator.
Meanwhile, the FLI file extension can still be found in other files other than animation files. The EmTeX also uses this file extension to identify the file format of its font library, or a collection of font styles that are stored in a single database file, for easier access and use of the font styles included in the file.Author: Autodesk
