What is the .FRO File Extension?
.FRO File Extension Description:
The FRO file extension is one of the two file extensions used by STARS, an integrated and multi-disciplinary interface capable of handling fluids, structural, and aeroservoelastic and aerolastic analysis. The other one is the GRI file extension.
The STARS output interface is part of ICEM CFD, the lone universal pre-processor that is specifically designed for an analysis which includes CFD as well as other CAE types of applications like computational electromagnetics and particle transport. It is also utilized for certain engineering applications like computational fluid dynamics and structural analysis.
With more than 100 structural analysis translators provided to generate an input file containing boundary conditions, ICEM CFD actually transformed the link in-between the mesh and CAD generation. Engineers and analysts for the first time have to learn only one software environment to pre-process the many analysis codes often use within working environment. Utilizing ICEM CFD provides productivity savings to the industry through the use of Direct CAD Interfaces. Through them, grid size specifications and boundary conditions can be applied in the CAD system carried all the way through to the solver.
The STARS output interface creates the boundary files with the .fro file extension in accordance with the STARS file format in the project directory of ICEM CFD. The interface utilizes the file with the .fro file extension in finding the actual boundary elements' group number, as written in the file. Both 2D and 3D input meshes are supported by this interface but not the additional boundary conditions.
The invoking the MED mesh editor from the so-called "STARS output interface" can then create files with the .fro file extension. This is done by accessing the Select Solver > STARS > STARS Input from the Output menu. A window opens to allow the specification of the files with the .fro file extension to be translated into the STARS format.
In addition, the STARS output interface requires the file with the .fro file extension and offers options in order to define the actual name of STARS' input files. This is along with the three "scaling factors". The ICEM CFD translator automatically adds the file extension FRO to the STARS files.Author: ANSYS, Inc.
