What is the .GKS File Extension?
.GKS File Extension Description:
Advanced Gravis Computer Technology Ltd. was known in the 80's for creating peripheral accessories and hardware devices for computers. The company was responsible for creating a sound card called Gravis Ultrasound. It was also known for creating game controllers and peripherals such as the Gravis Joystick and Gravis PC GamePad. These game controllers are used to connect to personal computers so that gamers are better able to control their actions when playing games.
The file extension GKS is used by another product of Advanced Gravis Computer Technology Ltd. called GrIP (Gravis Interface Protocol). GrIP is a port, which allows several players to connect to one computer. This device is used so that several gamers can play the same game on the PC. The device translates all the actions and keystrokes that are started by the Gravis GamePads or Joysticks connected to the device.
The GrIPKey feature of the device and its supporting program uses the GKS file extension in particular. The feature is used to assign specific keyboard commands to buttons in the Gravis Controllers. Files with the file extension .gks are used to store the descriptions of the buttons, which are used to access specific actions within games. Files, which use the .gks file extension, are called keysets. These keyset files are capable of holding no more than 4 button descriptions.
The GrIPKey feature creates files with the .gks file extension. The feature provides users with a list of optional keypad buttons, which can store processes that are used in specific games. Once these files are saved, they can be loaded at a later time so that keypads can be used for playing, instead of keyboards.
Files with the GKS file extension allows users to specify which commands are assigned to which buttons of a gamepad. Users can specify and configure the layout of their gamepads, optimizing gameplay. Different games require a different set of keysets with the GKS file extension. Users can save several optional keysets for the same game. Each keyset is listed as an option before they start playing the actual game.Author: Advanced Gravis Computer Technology, Ltd.
