The .glt file extension is a format that is text-based and is compatible with the old .gl format, which can be edited with a text editor, while the .glb file extension is a format which is binary based and is used for faster loading. Though the Ustunts3dedit program stores the .glt and .glb file extensions, the .glb file extension is only loaded by the game. Files with the .glb file extension can be edited when there are changes to be made to the file.
The .glb file extension is the new file format used in the place of the .gl file extension, and the new format was used since the 0.5.3 version. The .glb file extension has the following advantages: loading of the game is faster because of the fact that it is in binary, it is better used for arrays of vertex because of vertices that are indexed, and it is easier to parse because it has lesser primitives.
