What is the .HAM File Extension?
.HAM File Extension Description:
The file extension HAM is associated with an Amiga Hold and Modify Image. DeLuxe Paint editor uses files with the HAM extension. DeLuxe Paint is a bitmap graphics editor, which was the descendant of a similar program created for the Commodore Amiga.
Amiga is one of the oldest personal computer systems that used colored graphic displays. Amiga systems had custom chipset capable of displaying 4096 colors. Graphics with 4096 resolutions were stored with the HAM file extension. The HAM screen mode was a feature of the Commodore Amiga home computer. The files with the extension HAM and its display mode had a big graphical advantage over the other computer systems at the time it was released. It allowed Commodore Amiga to display digitized photographs and 3D images in a photorealistic level not common at the time it was initially added to the computer.
The file extension HAM is also attached to the game data attribute file of the Descent 2 game. Descent 2 is a first person shooter rendered in 3D. When playing the game, players have 6 full degrees of freedom of movement and line of sight. Descent 2 is the game expansion of its predecessor Descent. Descent 2 comes with more weapon-types available as well as improved artificial intelligence and robot construction.
Descent 2 also supports multiplayer game play. The file DESCENT2 with the file extension HAM is stored in the Descent 2 directory. The DESCENT2.HAM file contains all the property resource data. Information on how weapons, robots and power-ups look like is stored in the DESCENT files with the HAM file extensions. Some details that are stored in files with the .ham file extension are:
1. The behavior of weapons such as how it fires and what type of ammunition it uses.
2. The action and movement type of every robot in the game as well as the weapons it carries.
If the settings stored in the DESCENT2.HAM file are changed, it could completely alter the game play and corrupt the program.Author: Amiga, Descent - Developer
