What is the .HEP File Extension?
.HEP File Extension Description:
The file extension HEP contains the data of the different session profiles used by HostExplorer 2008 for different users who utilize the application's Telnet Session. One session profile would have a separate file with a .hep format.
The HostExplorer 2008 was developed by Hummingbird Ltd., to address the problem of connecting desktop computers with different system platforms to a legacy host, for accessing and manipulating business-related data using Telnet protocols.
Telnet (or Telecommunication Network) is an Internet and LAN-based (Local Area Network) protocol used to access data between two active systems. Telnet was first implemented and used on Unix-platforms, but was improved to accommodate other operating systems, like Windows and Linux.
Since legacy host systems are mostly stored in Mainframe and AS/400 units, the HostExplorer application will solve the compatibility issue when different operating systems access the information on the legacy host.
The file with the HEP extension holds all user data on a HostExplorer application. The user profiles (session profiles) will determine the following procedures:
* The device to be utilized during the Telnet session of HostExplorer 2008 (hardware profile)
* Select display profiles, like ISO Color Visibility, Color Output for Data Directories (which determines the color labels for different content of the HostExplorer application)
* Authentication protocols for firewalls (both host and client)
* Scroll lock for SSCP screens
* Secure Shell option
* Keep Alive option
* Macros (additional functions pre-programmed by the user)
* Font Size and Color (for text display and labels)
* SSL enable/disable
When a telnet session is initiated using the HostExplorer application, the program will allow users to pick a session profile in a .hep extension. This will affect the user interface, content, and the hardware profile used for that specific session.Author: Hummingbird, Ltd.
