What is the .HIS File Extension?

.HIS File Extension Description:

The file extension FindinSite search engines to describe a full text search in the user's database are using HIS. The FindinSite application was developed by PHD Computer Consultants Ltd. and is a custom search engine that can provide a powerful search specific to the user's Web site, CD, or DVD. Currently, the FindinSite search engines are available for Microsoft servers running on ASP.NET, Java servers running on servlets, and for CDs or DVDs that use a Java applet. However, the FindinSite application can also run a hosted search for a user's Web site.

The basic function of the .his file extension is the full text search text retrieval. Files with the .his file extension use a method for searching computer documents from a specific database. The file extension .his has the ability to check for all the words specified by the user and tries to match these words in the database.

Aside from the full text search function of the HIS file extension, it can also use the method of indexing, which is particularly useful when the number of documents the user is searching is larger. Through this method, the file with the .his file extension will scan all the text from all the documents and generate a list of search terms. After the index is created, the search initiates and only the index is referenced, rather than the original text from the documents.

The .his file format could create an entry in the index for each term or word element in a document. Additionally, files with the .his file extension can also relate the position of the generated terms within the document. Normally, the files with the .his extension would ignore words such as "the" and "and," since they are too common and carry too little meaning for searches.
