What is the .INFO File Extension?
.INFO File Extension Description:
The file extension INFO identifies image index files from Canon's ZoomBrowser EX. ZoomBrowser EX is installed with the installation of your Canon digital camera. It is the software that knows your camera and provides the functions it needs from downloading and organizing to editing and printing of images to sending them as email attachments.
The INFO file extension is used by the system to enable the viewing of your pictures in thumbnails. It provides organizational structure for your image files along with the thumbnail view of those images. This file extension often shows up in the zbthumbnail.info file, which by nature is a hidden file.
In Windows XP, however, the files with the .info file extension are typically saved in the same directory and can be made to appear inside the album folder as their corresponding images depending on the computer's viewing settings. They can be viewed by selecting the thumbnails in "View" rather than "Icons" where another Thumbnail File is hidden in each folder. These files only come into sight when you are copying to a CD.
Files with the .info file extension include the data or information pertaining to the various thumbnail images that represent the images contained in the pictures folder. These files enable quick browsing of all the images contained in the album when one or ZoomBrowser opens more of these files.
Nothing happens if the files with the .info file extension are deleted. This is because new files are created the next time ZoomBrowser is launched. It is not also necessary to move these files when moving your images because they can update the thumbnail files as needed. Neither the storage of two thumbnail files are possible in the same folder because they will only have the same name, thus one of them are deleted.
The Amiga computer for its icons also uses the file extension INFO. An Amiga computer is a different computer though a lot of hardware does not differ with the standard PC. Its archive files are packed with LHA and cannot be opened with most ZIP utilities. Its icons are inside files with the .info file extension and there are now ay to get the images directly out on a standard PC.Author: Canon Inc.
