What is the .ISD File Extension?
.ISD File Extension Description:
InstallShield is the de facto standard tool for authoring software packages and installers on the Windows platform. It ensures that software installations are properly configured, installed, updated and eventually uninstalled. It provides developers with powerful functionalities that can be extended to configure database servers and manage a variety of software on mobile and other handheld devices.
Dialogs provide the user interface for your installation. Their basic function is to request information from users and provide feedback about the progress of the installation projects. The dialogs in your project depend on the type of installation that you create. Some of the dialog operations are common to most InstallShield projects such as InstallScript and Basic MSI. The files for the dialogs have the file extension ISD that contain the behavior and layout information for the dialog.
Files with the .isd file extension can be created using the Dialog Wizard. The wizard provides a Dialog Template panel that lists all the default templates or existing dialogs in the directory on which you can base your new dialog file. Existing files with the .isd file extension can be reused in other projects or can be shared with other users by publishing them in repositories.
Repositories are compilations of common elements including end-user catalogs; merge modules, InstallScript files, project templates, system searches, and SQL scripts. They allow users to create custom dialogs only once and save them from creating duplicate files. Anytime you want to use files with the .isd file extension, simply add the files from the repository into your project.
Files with the .isd file extension can be deposited in two types of repositories available in InstallShield: local and network repository. A local repository is where you can store your own collection of installation elements so you can reuse them in your own projects. Therefore, other installation authors cannot use files deposited with a local repository. A network repository is where other installation authors store there multiple installation elements so they can be reused when needed, thus promoting collaboration among installation authors.Author: Macrovision Corporation
