What is the .LDA File Extension?
.LDA File Extension Description:
The file extension .lda is associated with the LaserData generated image format, related to raster graphics images. In the context of computer graphics, the raster graphics associated with the file extension .lda, are commonly referred to as bitmaps, which is a type of data structure that is made up of rectangular pixel grids or color points, that can be seen through a computer screen, or outputted on paper via a printer or other types of display mediums. The .lda file extension is therefore a type of image file similar to TIFF, JPG, GIF and other file extensions associated with images.
The file extension .lda is generated by the different products of LaserData, which are primarily concerned with document imaging and management that are implemented under Microsoft Windows or Novell Netware Operating System environments. Some of the products that generate the .lda file extension are OS/N and DocuData, until Kofax, which blended optical storage and imaging solutions, acquired the company. The file extension .lda was retained in the Kofax products and remains supported by various imaging tools like the LeadTools application.
The file extension .lda generated by the LaserData is a Group 4 compressed legacy FAX format that is usually implemented in encoding fax transmissions. There are generally two encoding types, the Group 3 (G3) and Fax Group 4 (G4), which are both identified with the TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) image file. G3 is a more recommended fax format because of its support for one-dimensional compression of images that results in an enhanced transmission speed with a 200 dots per inch resolution. The CCITT G4 which was introduced by LaserData and follows the .lda file extension, supports two-dimensional compression of images (for both line height and width), and outputs a resolution of 400 dots per inch, but translates to slower transmission speeds, but unlike G3, is capable of utilizing ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Networks) for transmissions.
Both groups are considered as industry standards used in the compression of bitonal or 1-bit data images, and both utilize the same line by line encoding process. The main difference between G3 and the .lda file extension supported G4, is that while G3 independently scans lines, G4 uses the previous line as a reference point for the succeeding line, which improves the compression ratio.Author: Kofax Image Products (,LaserData Inc.),
