What is the .LSS File Extension?
.LSS File Extension Description:
The file extension .lss was originally designed by IBM UK for the Legato program. Legato is a program suite that was developed by IBM UK for the OS/2 platform. OS/2 (Operating System/2) was designed with the combined resources of the International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) and the Microsoft Corporation. The platform was built on the basic features of the Disk Operating System and Microsoft Windows. It is still available under the name eComStation; however Microsoft or IBM no longer supports it.
IBM developed Legato when they were still distributing the OS/2 system. The name of the programming suite was changed to IBM Works before it was originally released. The program was also taken over by a Canadian company called Footprint. The operating system was also given the name Footprint Works. The name IBM Works was used more often for the suite.
IBM Works was distributed with the OS/2 platform in the 1990's. The program uses the file extension .lss to store spreadsheets created by the utility in the suite. Aside from a spreadsheet tool, the program suite also contained a database management program, a word processor, and a personal information manager. Programs stored in a suite are developed so that they can be used together. Data created in one application in the program suite can be imported to another in the program suite.
Files with the LSS file extension contain spreadsheets created by the IBM Works program. The file extension .lss is used by files, which contain tables, charts and objects embedded in the spreadsheet. Files with the file extension LSS can also be imported to other programs in the IBM Works suite.
The LotusScript feature used in several programs developed by the Lotus Development Corporation also uses the LSS file extension. Lotus was eventually purchased by IBM and renamed Lotus Software as a division of the company. LotusScript is a version of the Basic programming language. Files with the .lss file extension are written with LotusScript to create additional processes for Lotus programs. Files with the file extension .lss hold source code for macros and plug-ins for Lotus applications.Author: International Business Machines Corporation (,spreadsheet),, Lotus Development Corporation (,Lotus Software),
