What is the .LTA File Extension?
.LTA File Extension Description:
Lithtech is a game engine that was created by the combined resources of both the Microsoft Corporation and Monolith Productions. A game engine is a kind of program that is used to create video games. The program also supports the processes of several video games. Game engines are used to develop processes as well as graphics for video games. Game engines often come with a rendering machine for two-dimensional and three-dimensional images, a collision response function and support for sound, animation, scripting, streaming, animation, artificial intelligence, networking, memory management, scene graphs and threading. Game engines were created so that the processes used in one game can be reused for others.
Several video game developers to create and support first-person shooter games often use the Lithtech game engine. Monolith originally started the project to serve as a 3D program for use with DirectX software from Microsoft. That did not materialize and Monolith continued developing the project on its own. The group of developers who worked on Lithtech created their own company called Touchdown Entertainment. The company continued development on Lithtech and has since released its latest version, Jupiter Extended.
The game engine uses the file extension LTA for its 3D objects. Files with the .lta file extension are actually written in ASCII text format. Any plain text editor can open files with the LTA file extension, however the programming language in the file can be rendered unreadable by the Lithtech game engine if changed.
Files with the LTA file extension are referenced when the game is played. 3D objects, which are used in the game, are stored in files with the file extension .lta. Files with the .lta file extension contain descriptions of 3D images, which are understood and read by Lithtech. These objects can then be manipulated by the user in the game as weapons or be used as part of the background or scene.
The first games which used the Lithtech engine were Blood II: The Chosen and Shogo: Mobile Armor Division. The latest Jupiter Ex version of the game engine is used in the games F.E.A.R., F.E.A.R. Extraction Point, F.E.A.R. Perseus Mandate, Condemned: Criminal Origins and Condemned 2: Bloodshot, among others.Author: Monolith Productions and Microsoft Corporation
