What is the .LWD File Extension?
.LWD File Extension Description:
LotusWorks is a program suite originally developed by Lotus Software. The company was later renamed Lotus Development when it was absorbed into the IBM company. IBM still supports and distributes the LotusWorks program suite.
The program suite was originally developed for DOS computers. The program was often included in early versions of IBM computers. Recent versions of the program were modified so that it can be run on a Windows operating system. LotusWorks includes 5 applications: a modem terminal module, a tool for editing and creating graphs and images, one to create and manage databases, a spreadsheet program and a word processor. These programs were designed to work with each other and exchange information. This meant that even though files created by any of the programs in the suite were in different formats, they could easily be used by any of the other programs.
LotusWorks was also one of the first program suites to include macros capability. Macros allowed users to automate certain processes. There are macros already included in the program, which users can learn. The user can also create and save their own macros tasks so that the processes they most often use can be done faster.
The word processor application in the LotusWorks suite saves files with the .lwd file extension. The word processor in Lotus Works is a basic text editor. Files created with the file extension LWD contain mostly plain ASCII text characters, with some support for special characters in more recent versions.
Files with the LWD file extension can contain imported data from the other programs, particularly the graphing, spreadsheet and database applications. Documents saved with the .lwd file extension can also be opened and edited by the user. Text files with the file extension .lwd contain very simple files, which can also be opened by text editors. Data stored in files with the LWD file extension can also be exported to other programs in the LotusWorks suite. The documents can also be converted to other file formats for use with other programs.Author: Lotus Software
