What is the .LWOB File Extension?
.LWOB File Extension Description:
The .lwob file extensions are three dimensional object files used with LightWave, computer graphics software for 3D modeling, rendering and animation. This program is one of the first high profile 3D standard packages in the industry with built in rendering abilities inclusive of a complex light calculation model for support of caustics.
LightWave contains binary files consisting of series of bytes ranging from 0 to 255 known as LightWave objects. These objects are stored as IFF (Interchange File Format) files with the FORM type of LWOB.
All LightWave objects are completely stored on a disk just as 3D-meshes with points, surfaces, and polygons that can be curves, faces, or even patches. They can contain many disjoint meshes or only one connected mesh that can define only one logical object. It can also be comprised of a single or several surface definitions with no mesh.
Generally, files with the .lwob file extension start with the four bytes "FORM" and are followed by a four-byte integer that gives the actual length of the entire file as well as the LWOB's FORM-type that has four bytes. Thus, data's remainder becomes a type of chunks series, which are the basic structural elements of files with the LWOB file extensions. A four-character type and a four-byte length for the data, which follows, give each chunk. Its type determines the contents of each chunk.
The chunks stored in the files with the LWOB file extensions are in the form of PNTS, POLS, and SRFS. Other chunks such as the SURF and CRVS are also found anywhere in the .lwob file extensions:
* PNTS - contains a list of the X, Y, and Z coordinates of all the points in an object stored in IEEE format as a floating-point number with four bytes.
* SRFS - contains a list of the names of all the surfaces in an object that appears as a null-terminated character string.
* POLS - contains a list of all the polygons in an object consisting of a single short integer emphasizing the vertices' number in a polygon which is followed by that large number of short integers emphasizing the vertices themselves.
* CRVS - contains a list of all the spline curves in an object consisting of a single short integer emphasizing the vertices' number in a curve followed by that many short integers emphasizing the vertices themselves in sequential order.
* SURF - describes the surface attributes of a particular surface beginning with the name of the surface being described.Author: NewTek, Inc.
