What is the .LXF File Extension?

.LXF File Extension Description:

Files with .lxf format are being used by the program LEGO Digital Designer 1.6, which is developed by the LEGO Group. The application allows users, usually kids, to create their own LEGO designs without resorting to buying the actual blocks.

The LEGO Digital Designer 1.6 software has a user-friendly GUI and provides users the ability to: 1) modify a pre-made design from LEGO, 2) create their own designs using the LEGO blocks built into the application, or 3) edit your existing designs. The application allows you to use functions like Rotate, View, and Zoom while you are in the process of designing your own LEGO model.

Once you've finished designing your model, saving it will automatically prompt the application to include an .lxf extension after the inputted filename (e.g. spaceship.lxf). Also, the LEGO Digital Designer 1.6 has the ability to compute the total monetary value of all the blocks you have used on your design (the currency may depend on the location configured during the installation process). You can also order the blocks online using the application to create a real version of your created design.

The file with LXF extension contains the following data:

* Graphic/image of your design

* Blocks used to create the model

* Color palettes used in your model (which applies to specific blocks used in the design)

* Settings like zoom and rotations used while designing the model

Another program called LDraw is also used to design your own model using LEGO blocks. The designs you have made on this application can be imported to LEGO Digital Designer by simply saving it in the .lxf format. Note, however, that LDraw, which only supports the LDR file extension, cannot read LXF files.
