What is the .LZD File Extension?
.LZD File Extension Description:
The LZD file extension is used to store binary files created by version 1.20 of the LDiff Differential Archiving program. Santa Cruz Operation as a part of the SCO Unix Utilities program suite developed the application. The program suite was included in versions of the SCO OpenServer (previously known as SCO Unix and SCO Open Desktop). SCO OpenServer is a proprietary version of the Unix operating system. Most Unix platforms have an open source code that can be edited by third-party programmers. Exclusively the Santa Cruz Operation Company (now called the SCO GROUP owns the source code of the SCO Open Server.
The LDiff software has the capability to compare similar directories and their files. The comparison results in difference files. Difference files are the result of comparison of files, settings and capabilities of versions of the same file. It is used primarily for upgrading executable files. LDiff can compare files that are in the ASCII or binary format.
Files with the LZD file extension contain the difference files that are the result of comparisons between binary files. Programmers to create patches, upgrades or new versions of the executable files they have previously distributed often use the utility. LDiff compares two versions of the same executable file. The program calculates the differences in the processes of the program by accessing its binary files. A file with the file extension .lzd is generated containing the differences. Programmers can then distribute files with the LZD file extension so that the program can be upgraded or changed. Using LDiff can open files with the LZD file extension. Once the program processes difference files with the .lzd file extension, an executable file will be released with the upgraded version of the program.
Files with the .lzd file extension contain archives. The difference between binary files is encoded in characters that can only be read by the LDiff program. If programmers want to send out the difference files, the recipients must also have LDiff to open them.Author: Santa Cruz Operation
