What is the .MAI File Extension?
.MAI File Extension Description:
The file extension MAI is found on memory sticks alongside MQV movie files. It comes in the form of a thumbnail video file being utilized by the "Movie Player" program on Sony's Client line of direct Palm OS PDAs.
Files with the .mai file extensions contain JPEG picture on thumbnail as well as the information on the video file such as the Title, Duration, Date and Time, Bitrate of the audio and video in kbps, the Dimensions in pixels, and the File name and Size in kilobytes. 80x60 pixels are the regarded standard dimensions of an encoded picture under JPEG.
The file extensions of MAI are to be positioned in the PALM PROGRAMS folder while the video files need to be in the MQ_ROOT folder so that the Movie Player will correctly feature the video, along with other information in the movie playlist.
The thumbnail in the .mai file extension can be viewed with any picture viewer such as IrfanView. On the other hand, the information in the video can be viewed by using the MoviePlayer pressing on the small filmstrip icon found on the left side of the actual video.
There are three options available in order to create a new file or update the thumbnail picture in the MAI file extension:
* By using the MoviePlayer on the PDA - while the video is playing, the menu contains an "Update" command which updates the thumbnail picture. In order to have the video's menu invoked, start playing the movie; plus, in a minimal view, utilize the button of the Menu located on the sidebar or in maximum screen view, Ctrl+M needs to be pressed in order to call the menu.
* By using Sony's Image Converter - converts videos and the matching MAI file extension. In order for this to work, the PALM PROGRAMS already exists on the selected media such as the hard drive, the memory stick, etc.
* Create the thumbnail that is under JPEG from the file of the original video by using .ffmpeg and utilize lmame's website in creating the file that will contain the MAI file extension derived from the actual JPEG file.Author: Sony Corporation
