What is the .MAK File Extension?
.MAK File Extension Description:
The file extension MAK means "Makefile". The MAK file extension is a registry of dependencies and regulations used in producing a "target". It contains information on determining compiled source files. It also includes references to essential files and compiler script. Programming languages like C++, Visual Basic for Windows, and Apple Xcode for Mac OS usually uses it.
ROMS also has a particular .mak file placed in their top-level directory. Their standard structure helps ROMS in compiling with other joined files. Some descriptions found within the makefile are modified or checked, and then the program starts compiling specific applications to indicate application option, 64-bit floating-point number precision, analytical expression directory, FORTRAN compiler, header file directory, and parallel compiling options.
The MAK file extension constructs the compiled items in a particular scratch directory and identifies the compiling dependencies with the use of the sfmakedepend script found in the directory of ROMS/Bin.
There are internal macro definitions in makefiles that are also described in Compilers/make_macros.h. It includes the cppdefs.h header file and makes the configuration file. When the user starts compiling these files, it is duplicated to the SCRATCH_DIR build directory before its deletion. This permits the compilation of the representer, tangent linear, and adjoint representation with their attached models and protocol libraries for communication when required to quicken the compilation.
In programming languages such as C++ and Visual Basic, the body of a file is included into the currently compiled file. Since the compiled object is dependent on the body of the included file, the included file is added as the source of the object file. A C++ program is created with numerous source code files and header files. Makefiles have different kinds of commands used. The program is executed to change and edit files, rebuild files if dependency files have been changed, and clean unwanted files.Author: Microsoft Corporation
