What is the .MIFF File Extension?
.MIFF File Extension Description:
John Cristy invented The MIFF file extension for the application ImageMagick. Files with the MIFF extension are also known as the Magick Image File Format. It is also a native format for GraphicsMagick. The MIFF file extension is a component belonging to the ImageMagick toolkit, and is used in manipulating images on the X Windows System Operating System.
Files created in the MIFF file extension are similar and compatible with the more popular formats (JPEG, PNG, PDF, GIF,etc.), but has several advantages over them as well. Bitmap images with lossless quality are stored in files with the MIFF extension; the files' attributes are preserved with no degradation. The encoding options, compression options, and digital signatures, are among the versatile features of the MIFF file extension.
Files in MIFF extension are comprised of two parts: The first part contains information and descriptions of the image in text format, and encoded in pure ASCII. Several keyword=value combinations make up the header. Comments can also be included to describe the file, provided they are within brackets. A ":" character followed immediately through a command, which is Ctrl-Z, ends the header. The last part contains image data in binary form. Every numeric equivalent in this part of the MIFF file extension is written in a "big-endian" order (the most significant bytes are the ones that are occurring first). The format of the data is dependent on how it was declared in the keywords found in the header.
Image data is either DirectClass or PseudoClass. Direct Class is comprised of standard RGB, RGBA, CMYK, and CMYKA, with values for different color intensities, as well as an alpha value that dictates the opacity level. On the other hand, PseudoClass is comprised of RGB images on a color map.
Image data on the MIFF file extension can either be uncompressed or compressed. If the files saved in the file extension MIFF is compressed, the compression keyword found on the header denotes the method used in compressing the file. These can either tell you if the MIFF file extension is runlength encoded, zip compressed, or bzip compressed. In addition, the image data in the MIFF file extension can contain more than one image.Author: ImageMagick
