What is the .MPA File Extension?
.MPA File Extension Description:
The MPA file extension is used for the MPEG Audio Stream. The entire layer I, layer II, and layer III uses the MPA file extension.
The MPEG layers II, III, and I were standardized by the Moving Picture Experts Group. This group is working to develop different audio and video encoding standards. Though the group is working for both audio and video, the MPA file extension is only related and useful for the audio files. But these audio files are not just simple audio files. These are streamed multimedia files. "Audio streaming" is a delivery method of audio files in a different medium and all the MPEG layers use this method. The only difference they have is the advancement in their technology.
MPEG Layer I or MPEG Audio Layer I am also known as MP1. Many media players support this, but MPEG Layer I am considered very outdated. This format was used by the format known as Digital Compact Cassette, however, only in the codec form called the PASC audio compression. This is especially made to have a steady streaming of frames every second, even while using a tape-based device. Though MPEG Layer I is the earliest of the three MPEG formats, it still uses the MPA file extension.
There is also the MPEG Audio Layer II that uses the MPA file extension. This is also an audio codec, which was defined using the ISO/IEC 11172-3. This is still the dominant audio broadcasting standard, although MP3 is very famous nowadays. The MPEG Layer II was originally created for TV broadcasting, digital radios, and Video CDs.
Another MPEG Layer that uses the MPA file extension is the MPEG Layer III. This is also a format for digital audio encoding, but with the compression of its data being lossy. This is now the most commonly used audio format used for consumer audios.
Aside from the MPED Layers I, II, and III, the MPA file extension is also used for another application called the E-Designer. For this, the MPA file extension works as an important file support.Author: MPEG, Beijer Electronics
