What is the .OBJF File Extension?
.OBJF File Extension Description:
The file extension OBJF is used in computer graphics particularly as a data file in objects that are composed of triangle strips. The OBJF file extension can also be considered similar to an .obj file except that the .objf file extension has triangle strips in it.
To obtain graphics with the OBJF file extension, a commonly used process is called stripification or stripe is done. A model that is comprised of polygons or a file in the .obj format begins the stripification process. This model will then be rendered into .objf file format or triangle strips. Thus, the file extension OBJF signifies an output of stripe, or is a list that contains triangle strips.
A triangle strip contains a group of triangles, which are linked together. Specifically, each triangle share vertices with other triangles. Used in a mesh, the triangle strips shorten the time consumed in rendering the object when transferred to the Graphics Processing Unit or Random Access Memory. The usage of triangle strips reduces the rendering time since the number of vertices is also reduced considering that the triangles share vertices. Another reason for this is that the triangle strip reduces the size of disk space occupied.
Aside from speed usage, triangle strips also enhance the effectiveness of the code. Each triangle in the graphics is identified with three vertices. To define the next triangle in the strip, only one more vertex is needed.
Unlike other file extensions, which are mainly used by a single or just a few programs, different computer programs that involve 3D graphics use the OBJF file extension. Among them are Hopfield Triangle Strip GENerator (HTGEN) and Open Graphics Library. While HTGEN is specially designed for triangular models, OpenGL covers numerous processes in the production of 3D graphics.
The triangle strip, which uses the OBJF file extension, was invented by William J. Schroeder from Schenectady, New York and patented by General Electric Company.Author: William J. Schroeder
