What is the .RIB File Extension?
.RIB File Extension Description:
The RenderMan Interface Bytestream is more commonly known as the RIB file extension. The RIB file extension was created and made by Pixar to standardize the interface amongst rendering programs and realistic modeling. Graphic rendering is the process where the user can create an entirely new picture coming from a model through a computer program.
The file extension RIB comes in plain text format, is extremely compact, and is also easy to translate for computers. It uses a single command language that is read and recognized by several different types of computers. The only additional data it tags along are RIB Requests, which are a series of specific ordered commands. Therefore, coming in binary compressed forms or 7-bit ASCII forms, it is highly space saving.
Files with the .rib file extension are composed of a single byte a time. This way, users are able to avoid seemingly inevitable problems on portability, transferal, and sharing that may have occurred due to byte sex difference between two or more sharing computers. While in a transferal compatible format, the RIB file extensions are free-formed and compatible with any rendering program.
In a way, the RIB file extension takes over the purpose of RenderMan or any other rendering program. This is because the image is transcribed into a series of sequenced letters and numbers first. That type of format makes it easier to transport through the Internet and its sites. After which, the user uses a rendering application to have produced an actual picture or graphic. Then, the purpose of the RIB file extension is done.
Files with the RIB file extension are made out of a set of special types of characters, otherwise known as Tokens. Some of the tokens included are the number sign, an asterisk, and quotation marks. Numbers, integers, and of course letters are included and are the core parts of these data streams known as bytestreams for RIB file extensions. Rendering application and processes interpret the data by scanning the bytestreams.Author: Pixar
