What is the .RMI File Extension?
.RMI File Extension Description:
Remote Method Invocation is addressed to as RMI. However, it is also known as Java RMI API or Java Remote Method Invocation Application Programming Interface. It is because the RMI file extension is commonly utilized by Java Applications to create Java technology-based programs, applications, and processes. Whether it is on the Internet, by Web Servers, or through the Java Virtual Machine, the utilization of the RMI file extension is still through Java.
The RMI file extension was created to solve client server difficulties. It used to be that the bandwidth, Internet speed, and server capacity had to be high. If not, the clients asking for the server to function via sending requested objects had to be low. At occasions when both Internet speed and server capacity is low and clients are too many, the transfer of requested objects becomes extremely difficult and problematic. Most of the time, the location of the server becomes modified and is transferred. In this case, the user first has to know its new location before being able to request for the object.
The file extension RMI possesses server-skeletons and client-stubs that solve these problems. The stubs are the objects in the client's computer while the skeleton is located in the server. Stubs act as the middle of the client and the Remote Interference Layer. Skeletons are in between the Remote Interference Layer and the server.
When the user requests for an object, the stub and skeleton simultaneously send data towards each other, the Remote Interference Layer, the client, and the server. At the same time, they are also able to proportionally receive information from all the networks addressing them. This exchange passes the object more smoothly and much quicker than usual and outdated object streaming. Therefore, even with low bandwidth and high client object requests, the files with the .rmi file extension allow a quick object transferal through Java Applications.
With the files with the .rmi file extension, the server is automatically located as well. Therefore, when the server changes its IP address or changes its Internet location due to whatever reason, the client can still request for an object transfer. The files with the .rmi file extension, therefore, mean less work for the user.Author: Sun Microsystems
