What is the .RND File Extension?
.RND File Extension Description:
AutoShade is an MS-DOS based application designed to produce realistic shaded renderings of AutoCAD drawings by using 3D faces. The finished image rendering is output to the RND file extension format.
Files with the .rnd file extension simulate various types of lights such as Spot, Point and Infinite Directional. These files have to be created first using the AutoCAD Drawing, which contains 3D, faces before they can be rendered. The next step is to place the lights and cameras in the drawing such as blocks (supplied with the AutoShade package for use in AutoCAD).
The AutoShade program has no ability to animate. Other applications such as AutoFLIX or AutoLISP, creates a file that contains the suitable meshes, camera and lights position for every frame. After this, the AutoShade renders every "scene" towards a detached file with the .rnd file extension.
There are two kinds of files with the .rnd file extension: the one in vector format and another in raster format. The .MOV EGA animations are made using the vector-based files with .rnd file extension. These files are also being supported by the Adobe Illustrator's old versions for importing images such as shapes.
Thus, the second is a raster kind of RND file extension format which could produce the nice looking and smooth animations. Each frame of these files is being compiled inside a FLI along with the use of the Autodesk Animator FLImaker, a program that converts AutoCAD, AutoSketch, and AutoShade files into Autodesk Animator format.
Then the FLI files have to be color-balanced due to the fact that the color palette only contains 256 colors. Thus, when different frames have different palettes, it can create artifacts in the animation. This color balance can force one palette across all the frames to make animation easier especially when you start adding cells to them.
The flimaker.exe application can also convert files with the .sld file extension into slides and render files with the .rnd file extension to the animation .fli file format of Autodesk Animator. AutoSketch, AutoCAD, and AutoShade actually produce such .sld files which are for the flimaker.exe conversion while AutoShade produces files with the .rnd file extension for the flimaker.exe conversion.Author: AutoDesk, Inc.
