What is the .SAL File Extension?
.SAL File Extension Description:
SORITEC is a forecasting and modeling system that can be used to replicate, approximate, or resolve an extensive array of econometric and statistical models. It can support models with hundreds of equations in a framework, which can be built, identified, rearranged, stored on a databank, or manipulated by name. Once assembled, the model can be replicated by a single command.
Data from SORITEC can be exported in files with the SAL file extension using the PUNCH command in the following format:
PUNCH (['filename'] [ALL]) series...
Where the modifier ALL includes all the observations written in files with the .sal file extension. If, however, this modifier is omitted, only the observations in the current USE period are written to the file.
SORITEC attaches the file extension SAL to the filename when the file is opened but if the filename is omitted, an arbitrary name is assigned. If the file with the .sal file extension already exists having the same name as the one being created, the existing file is overwritten with a new one.
Files with the .sal file extension remain open to end the session until SORITEC issues the QUIT command. Therefore, multiple PUNCH commands can attach the data to the corresponding file with the .sal file extension which when closed is appended with an END delimiter.
Files with the .sal file extension are also the preferred way to import data to SORITEC, but there are instances when the data are controlled so that it is essential to use explicit format statements such as the FORTRAN-style. This allows SORITEC to read the formatted data straight from the file with the .sal file extension in the following manner:
READ(['filename'] [statement_number]) series...
where the word "statement_number" refers to format statement formerly defined. The data file described by the "filename" has the file extension SAL. In case the filename is not included, the data from the existing input device is read by SORITEC and if the format statement number is deleted, the data is understood to be free-formatted. Multiple READ statements can read files with the .sal file extension and all their data can be imported one at a time.Author: Sorites Group, Inc.
