What is the .SFL File Extension?
.SFL File Extension Description:
Poinsthop3D uses The SFL file extension for importing and exporting its surfel objects and scenes.
A surfel object is characterized by a set of surface properties arranged arbitrarily to associate each object to existing surface samples. Implemented as an extensible format on files with the .sfl file extension, surfel objects can have additional arbitrary surfel attributes while maintaining upward or downward compatibility.
Files with the .sfl file extension are written in binary format. They contain objects with surfel attributes, which are extendible, as well as a set of filter programs. While handling surfel objects, these files offer versatility as they extend the capability to compress data, convert surfel attributes, and implement upward and downward compatibility. Moreover, as a binary format, they have the ability to coordinate systems.
The content of files with the .sfl file extension includes scenes that contain multiple surfel objects with different attributes. The objects can have multiple resolution levels. Meta-information about the object are also integrated in the SFL file extension format, specifically its author, application, time/date of creation, etc.
The file with the .sfl file extension is structured in such a way that it can be read or written using the SFL application programming interface. The structure of this file consists of:
* A header that contains general information on the scene and the surfel set list.
* The surfel set lists where surfel sets within a scene are sequentially listed.
* A surfel object used in Pointshop 3D which can have its own attributes.
* An SFL library that stores the surfel sets. Each surfel set can have multiple resolutions and each resolution can hold an array of surfels.
The SFL file extension, besides having a binary file format, can also use a generic file format library called GFF, which consists of a list of directories that are linked together. Each directory holds a child directory, which is connected to another linked list. A GFF DLL library needs to be loaded to the system before it can be used by the SFL file extension.Author: IMatix Corporation
