What is the .THM File Extension?

.THM File Extension Description:

There are three versions of the .thm file extension. The first .thm file is an image thumbnail created to represent its larger version. This is quite common in cases under Microsoft Windows operating systems, like XP and Vista.

Considered as a raster image file, this version of the .thm format contains arrays called pixels. Each pixel holds a color value ranging from 0 to 255 within the RGB (Red, Green, and Blue) color palette. The .thm image format will contain a miniaturized version of the original pixel, which is quite useful in browsing through multiple images in a folder. Such is the case on many systems used in mobile phones and digital cameras.

The second version of the .thm file extension is also a thumbnail file for videos. The first scene of the video is converted into raster image and saved in a .thm format. This is also being used for browsing purposes. Note, however, that these are static images and are not thumbnail versions of the actual video.

The third version of the .thm file is used by Sony Ericsson mobile phones as a theme file. Themes are sets of images that are used to customize the user interface of mobile phones, such as windows, texts, text colors and formatting, icons, wallpapers, and other images. Some themes also incorporate sound data, but depend on the model of the mobile phone that they are created for.

Note, however, that not all files with the .thm extension are compatible with all models of Sony Ericsson mobile phones, because each model is different according to settings, configurations, and interface design. Opening a .thm file from another mobile phone model would result in an error that includes the inability to open the said file.
