What is the .TMO File Extension?
.TMO File Extension Description:
The file extension .tmo is identified with the first native C++ compiler Zortech C++, intended for the high level, general purpose development language environment. The .tmo file extension specifically references the output file based on the global optimizer option of the compiler module, which shifted hands from its original developer to Symantec Corporation to the current owners, Digital Mars. The implementation of the global optimizer supported by the .tmo file extension, can be either enabled or disabled by invoking the -O command option that allows for the optimization of various program variables.
The Zortech compiler and its supported .tmo file extension file format was introduced in 1982, during the evaluation of computer languages involved in the development of software applications for the field of electrical engineering. Deployment of the file extension .tmo is based on the architecture of the VAX UNIX, VAX VMS, and the IBM PC computer systems, and implements the C language, which at the time was one of the more popular development environments in the industry, especially with the release of the C compiler of DEC for the UNIX and the VMS standards.
The intent of the .tmo file extension's implementation of the supported functionality was to provide a better compiler module for the C programming language in the personal computer architecture. The drive led to the development of the code for the functional clone for the two pass Lattice compiler, which allowed the debugging of every pass making it compatible with Lattice libraries. The first release of the file extension .tmo supported module took over a year in development.
The Lattice C compiler, referenced by the file extension .tmo, was also appealing to Microsoft and was eventually OEMed, changing only the startup banner of the program and changing the software title from Lattice C to Microsoft C, which was basically the same version of the original software. The .tmo file extension supported compiler was initially commercially released under the name Northwest C, and eventually changed to Datalight C.Author: Walter Bright
