What is the .TP File Extension?
.TP File Extension Description:
The TP file extension refers to an ATSC Transport Stream. This format defines files in the ATSC standard that have basic specifications and criteria, which are needed to effectively implement and operate in Advanced Television Systems. Files in the .tp file extension are in a communications protocol for video, audio, and data in MPEG-2.
The design of a file in the .tp file extension allows multiplexing of digital audio and video, to enable synchronization of output. An ATSC transport stream provides error connection features to transport data over an unreliable media, which are used in an ATSC broadcast application.
Files in the .tp file extension are processed in layers by the receiver, the same as in a protocol stack in an OSI network. An ATSC transport stream are processed by composing different programs, by a PES or a packetized elementary stream, a group of pictures or GOP that provides access points randomly, the use of Slice to prevent errors from being inserted via intraprediction, a macro block, and a just block or encoding block.
Files in the .tp file extension contain a packet, the basic unit within the ATSC transport stream. It also has a PID, wherein every table in stream is defined by a 13-bit PID and a PSI or Program Specific Information.
ATSC Standards define files in the .tp file extension in a format for digital television, which can produce a display resolution of up to 1920 x 1080 pixels. Files in the .tp file extension have theater quality audio as well, because it utilizes a format with DOLBY Digital surround sound.
In the transport of files with the ATSC standard, it uses the systems specification of MPEG-2 with files in the .tp file extension in the encapsulation of data. However, before decoding of video and audio, the receiver is needed to demodulate and to apply the signal an error connection. Files in the .tp file extension can be then demultiplexed into constituent streams.Author: Advanced television Systems Committee
