What is the .TPW File Extension?
.TPW File Extension Description:
the development language Turbo Pascal, which was founded on the original Pascal language, used with the MS-DOS environment implements the file extension .tpw. The file extension .tpw is described as the state file generated by a component of Turbo Pascal, the Turbo Profiler that is commonly used in relation to a Windows Session. The file extension .tpw first appeared in the Turbo Pascal version 6.0 released in the early 1990s, which incorporated various class libraries that provided similar to Windows user interfaces; except that they were basically executed in text mode.
The introduction of the file extension .tpw to the development environment ushered the creation of overlapping windows (multi-interface documents), that enabled support for the mouse device which was difficult prior to this release, because of the object oriented methods that proved to be tedious for the language.
The environment of this release was more similar to windows (provided via Turbo Vision) with the protected mode of the 80386 microprocessor being invoked by its compiler, allowing the use of the upper 640K memory boundary. The file extension .tpw associated with the Turbo Profiler, allowed the benchmarking of applications to specifically identify the execution times for interrupts, overlays, and routines among others.
The file extension .tpw is also related to the formats TF (configuration), TFA (area file), TFH (help file) and TFS (statistics), which are all components of the Turbo Profiler. The file extension .tpw also provided a way of measuring file input and output performance, to help evaluate the possible behavior of the program once deployed. The .tpw file extension is also associated with the BGI format for the Turbo Pascal for Windows development environment.
The Turbo Pascal IDE associated with the file extension .tpw, also provided the foundation for the Delphi programming language. The language was initially conceived for the CP/M Operating System and eventually transported to IBM PC under the MS-DOS platform, which monopolized programming because of the lack of viable alternatives in its category. The language that produced the .tpw file extension was well known for the impressively short time involved in compiling source codes, which was also the basis for appending the word Turbo to the language name.Author: Borland Software Corporation
