What is the .TRC File Extension?
.TRC File Extension Description:
The TRC file extension identifies trace files which are a result of running the trace facility of Oracle Database. Oracle is a relational database management system (RDBMS) commonly used in database computing.
Oracle's trace facility permits database administrators in order to acquire more data on the internal operations of several Oracle components as compared to those provided in its log files. It also generates detailed statements sequentially; traces the events as they are executed, and evaluate the output file with the .trc file extension so that the errors can be identified.
The Oracle Database mainly creates the files with the .trc file extension because they are designed to supply additional information about the errors identified and reported by the database. However, there are other Oracle components that have the capability to generate files with the .trc file extension such as the Oracle XA facility.
The XA facility produces files with the .trc file extension when Oracle reports an error that MSDTC (Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator) tries to execute an actual XA operation using the Oracle database. This is mainly because the files with the .trc file extension are the only means which the Oracle can report supplementary error information. It is also created for every unsuccessful recovery attempt of Oracle. Thus, when an XA recovery repeatedly fails, many files with the .trc file extension are created.
MSDTC executes XA recovery operation by determining if any Oracle database connections need recovery through the Dtcxatm.log file. The open string for the database connection is retrieved making the database to open, which in return sends a list of the transactions that were active at the time of failure. MSDTC notifies Oracle that a transaction committed or aborted. When the Oracle database has been informed about the outcome of the transaction, the XA recovery is completed and the log record of Dtcxatm.log file to Oracle connection is deleted.
The following data are contained in a typical file with the .trc file extension:
* ORACLE XA: Version 188.8.131.52.0. RM name = 'Oracle_XA'.
* xaolgn: XAER_RMERR; upiahs failed. ORA-12154.
* ORA-12154: TNS: The name of the service was not resolvedAuthor: Oracle Corporation
