What is the .TXW File Extension?
.TXW File Extension Description:
The TXW file extension is a proprietary file format created by Yamaha for its audio wave files that can be produced through the Yamaha TX16W sampler. This rack mount sampler contains a 12-bit sound module that can be re-sampled from 33 kHz stereos up to 50 kHz mono sampling. It allows 17 different types of digital filters along with 8 individual regular stereo outputs. The '16' in TX16W stands for 16 voices.
With the TX16W sampler's 12-bit audio system, the files with the .txw file extension contain more analogous headroom sound than most other 12 bit audio systems. These files sound better than the Akai and Casio 12 bit audio files and can be compared even to the latest virtual samplers.
The files with the .txw file extension can be sampled at 50 kHz mono. This is although the full benefit are masked on the TX16W itself by the analogue anti-aliasing filters on the outputs. They give a dark sound, which is actually good because when re-played on more recent instruments, the files with the .txw file extension integrate hi-fi quality. Their main outputs are polyphonic, which sound brighter than the individual outputs with eight monophonic sounds. Even at low sampling rates, the files with the .txw file extension can be transposed evenly.
Files with the .txw file extension have no root key or tuning parameters. Thus, when a user saves them, the files can be manually tuned in case they will be used in an instrument on a synth. However, since these files can only support from 50 kHz and 33 kHz to 16 kHz sample frequencies, they can be resample to either one of these sampling frequencies before saving them.
The file with the .txw file extension supports about 128K samples at maximum range in the so-called 'attack'. Moreover, it can also support, in the loop, about 128K samples. Thus, if the actual waveform is longer, it will be truncated.
