What is the .VDO File Extension?
.VDO File Extension Description:
VDOLive is a client/server-based program for web video delivery; the VDOLive player being the client enables users to receive and view video clips over the Internet whereas the VDOLive server being the server that transmits these video clips. It uses a true streaming architecture that adjusts to viewer's connections as they watch the movies on the Internet by adding video signal to the stream.
The VDOLive technology is based on a scaleable audio and video compression algorithm alongside a protocol for transmissions through the Internet of its resulting files, which use the VDO file extension. These files can be viewed and downloaded simultaneously, thus you do not have to download the entire videos in order to watch them because they can be seen while being downloaded. This process is similar to radio broadcasts where you can listen to them while the signals are being broadcasted.
A typical file with the .vdo file extension can contain 200KB to 1000KB per minute with 15 frames per second and 24 bits per pixel of 160'120 video depending on the compression rate.
Using your own video clips can produce files with the .vdo file extension. These files can be captured from analog sources such as Beta or VHS magnetic tapes and converted to their digital format with the use of the VDOLive Personal Tools. These tools, along with specialized audio and video capture hardware; compress these uncompressed videos to the files with the .vdo file extension and save them as AVI files.
A video link on a web page is the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) of a file with the .vdo file extension, for instance, http://www.yahoo.com/ birthday.vdo. In fact, this file is a container of another URL written in ASCII and the actual video file. The Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) for the file with the .vdo file extension is video/vdo where the file mime.types on the web server includes a line for this MIME type. The actual video is then shown on the window of the browser with a TV-like screen or in the window outside the VDOLive player
The server side of the VDOLive program runs in the background while listening to the TCP default port 7000 for files with the .vdo file extension from the local file system. These files are then transmitted to a given client over the Internet by using the UDP protocol.Author: VDOnet Corporation
