What is the .VIFF File Extension?
.VIFF File Extension Description:
Khoral Research, Inc. developed The VIFF file extension for its Khoros program. Khronos provides users with a workspace and tools to develop software and processes. One of the uses of the program is to create and encode images. The application can also be used to complete tasks for processing signals, creating visual equivalents of scientific values as well as exploring data.
Khoros is used primarily to create software without requiring the writing of script in any programming language. The program comes with its own tools, which can be used to create fully functional applications. Khoros tools are used to:
* Simulate the creation of images
* Manipulate data
* Process images
* Analyze numerical values
* View data as graphics
* Create interactive two-dimensional or three-dimensional images
These features are used to create a fully functional program. Khoros also comes with libraries of several programming languages such as Perl, FORTRAN, C and C++. The created processes and images with the program can be generated as source code so that they can be compiled, assembled or linked to form an executable file.
The AccuSoft Corporation eventually purchased Khoral Research, Inc.. AccuSoft absorbed the Khoros Pro product line and renamed it VisiQuest. Files with the VIFF file extension contain images in the Visualization Image File Format that was developed by Khoral. Files with the .viff file extension have a header, which describes all the resources and information about the data that follows. Images with the file extension .viff are made up of two kinds of images:
1. An Implicit image stores the Z data, which makes up the image. The data that tells the system where to place this particular piece of information is stored elsewhere.
2. The Explicit image stored with the file includes the location as well as the data.
Since AccuSoft purchased Khoros, support for files with the VIFF file extension has been incorporated into its other programs such as ImageGear. Another program that can open files with the VIFF file extension is XnView.Author: Khoral Research, Inc.
