What is the .WEB File Extension?

.WEB File Extension Description:

BlackWidow is website scanning software that scans an actual site and creates a complete and thorough profile with regards to the site's files, external links, structure, as well as link errors. It has the ability to download all types of files from any web sites such as images and pictures, MP3 and audio, documents, videos, ZIP, CSS, programs, Macromedia Flash, PHP, PDF, HTM, MIME to CGI types. It can pull links from Java Scripts and Java Scripts scan Adobe Acrobat and Flash files for links, etc. from any type of website.

BlackWidow uses the WEB file extension for its text files that can be shared with others. These files contain a scan, which is the structure and file information of a website, making it easy for others to download files since the scanning has already been done. Files with the .web file extension contain scanning information such as plugin settings, filters, and other options.

BlackWidow can scan a site without downloading it to your hard drive. For this reason, you can build the structure of the site, which you can save as a file with the .web file extension. These files can be used to reload a site in BlackWidow to continue your download, or simply to select other files to download.

When BlackWidow scans a web site, it must first pull a file with the .web file extension from that site and parse it to find new links. BlackWidow then queries the filters to know if a link is to be processed or not, and that's what each filters do. For each new links, the process is repeated.

There are two circumstances in which BlackWidow will query the filters. The first one is when it parses a file with the .web file extension for links labeled as "When parsing" in the filters. At this point, BlackWidow does not know the size, date or type of the link. For this reason, you cannot filter these kinds of links by size or type, only by URL or file name.

The second one is when a link has been verified and labeled as "When adding" because BlackWidow is ready to add this new link to the structure. At this point, the size and type of the link is known, and you can filter them by size and type as well as by URL and file name.

The layout of the filters is simple. It works like a tree, or folders, where one filter can contain more filters. This is especially useful when filtering files in one directory but not another. When BlackWidow query the filters, it starts with the first enabled filter. When a match is found, BlackWidow will look at the filter action to know what to do next. These actions are to keep the link or not, and, to exit the filters which stop the filtering process for that link.

The other action is to start a new block, which means, this filter will contain more filters. Each filter can be set to logical "NOT" to reverse the logic of the filter, from "match" to "no match". If none of the filters match, there is an "Assume" setting which will be used to determine if the link is to be processed or not.
