The Borland Software Corporation who eventually sold the rights to develop and distribute the program to dBase, Inc, later purchased Ashton-Tate.
dBase creates databases, which can hold a number of information in different file formats. Databases are used to store large amounts of data in one place. The dBase program can sort, filter and search the information. Databases can be used to store contact information, documents, comments and notations. These are often maintained by companies to store all the information pertaining to several projects in one place. Information stored in databases can be grouped so that they can also be accessed as a batch.
Files with the .wfm file extension are database forms used to enter data. The dBase application refers to forms with the WFM file extension to provide users with fields wherein data can be entered.
