What is the .XFT File Extension?
.XFT File Extension Description:
The file extension .xft was a component file of the software application ChiWriter, which was associated with the printer font used by the program. The .xft file extension represents the printer font associated with the 24-pin printing device commonly known as matrix printers, which were immensely popular at the time. The file extension .xft supported the various functionalities related with the multi-font scientific word processing application, which was intended primarily for the MS-DOS environment but can also be hosted under the Microsoft Windows 3.xx and the Windows 95 platforms as a shortcut icon that launches the program upon double-click.
The program generates its own graphical screen, which is supported by the .xft file extension with certain resolutions offering support for the mouse pointing device. The file extension .xft likewise supported the WYSIWYG feature set of the editors, which is capable of generating mathematical formulas on any IBM compatible PC XT architecture that were available at the time. The editor referenced by the file extension .xft was concentrated on the delivery of interactive support and speed in terms of editing instead of the superficial visual presentation of its results. This orientation led to the implementation of its native graphical user interface using bitmap fonts that have fixed width and supported by the .xft file extension.
The software application was also relatively easier to handle than TeX. However, this did not prevent its demise when overtaken by more sophisticated vector font based text editors introduced under the Microsoft Window Operating System platform. The file extension .xft supports the basic premise of the program where a user is provided with the tool to insert lines either above or below the position of the current line of text.
The file extension .xft represented the data files associated with the LiveCycle, which was formerly known as Form Designer. The application was based on the FormFlow Designer that was originally conceptualized by JetForm Corporation until it was purchased by the Adobe Systems, which released the .xft file extension that supported LiveCycle, which was commonly implemented for the creation of interactive data capture programs.Author: Adobe Systems Incorporated, Cay Hortsmann
