What is the .YNN File Extension?
.YNN File Extension Description:
Paradox is relational database software integrated in the professional version of WordPerfect Office suite. It is known for its caching ability of data tables, particularly the use of indexes causing it to carry out its tasks very quickly.
The Paradox system uses a set of files to store each Paradox table with great capacity. The Paradox table contains two index files: (1) the primary index file with the .px file extension, which defines the primary key values as well as its corresponding record numbers, and (2) the pair of secondary index files with the .xnn file extension and the files with the .ynn file extension. These pair of secondary indexes has the same basic relationship with each other and with its data records.
The file with the .xnn file extension and the file with the .ynn file extension are both Paradox tables with primary indexes in structure. The record in the index file that ends with the XNN file extension contains three fields, namely the secondary index key value, the primary key value, and the two byte field named "hint".
Paradox performs the primary key-type search on the index file that ends with the YNN file extension so as for the value in the secondary index to be located. From this process can be obtained the primary key value where the desired record can be found in the database. It then performs a second search through the database and primary index files to locate the desired record.
The hint field can be pointed directly to the block in the database file where the record can be found. This way, searching the primary indexes to find the key can be avoided. However, if the records inserted into a "full table" are moved to another block, Paradox does not go back to find all those transferred records in the secondary indexes and update their "hints". Rather, it still points these hints to the old split block.
The Paradox table along with the primary and secondary indexes, including the file with the .ynn file extension, is physically divided into blocks. Each block has 6 bytes of overhead followed by a number of integral records. Any space in excess at the end of each block is not used.
